Igorski paints icons following the oldest models and techniques: the face is not the artist's invention but the transmission of a thousand-year-old canon. This icon of Saint Victor, made on commission in 2017, is a measure icon: in the Russian tradition, the icon of the patron saint is painted to the exact height of the newborn at birth, to accompany them from baptism through their whole life.
Victor is depicted as a warrior martyr, in Roman military dress and armor, holding a spear and shield: the traditional iconography reserved for soldier-saints. The Church Slavonic inscription follows the same Russian style as the icon of Saint Panteleimon.
Made on a wood panel with gesso ground, in vinyl tempera.
