San Francesco d'Assisi
Sold
Igorski paints icons following the oldest models and techniques: the face is not the artist's invention but the transmission of a thousand-year-old canon. This icon of Saint Francis of Assisi is a replica, painted in the artist's own style, of an earlier icon of the same saint made two years before.
Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan order, is among the most venerated saints of Western Christianity: a man of absolute poverty and peace, he received the stigmata on Mount La Verna, the marks of Christ's Passion impressed on his hands, feet and side. In the icon, his open hands show exactly those marks, following the saint's classical iconography.
Made in vinyl tempera on plywood, in the same style as the first version painted two years earlier.
A commissioned icon: from € 100
