Santa Teresa di Lisieux

Icon · Egg tempera on wood panel, natural pigments, gold on bole · 20 × 25 cm, 2025

Private collection

Igorski paints icons following the oldest models and techniques: the face is not the artist's invention but the transmission of a thousand-year-old canon. This icon of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, made on private commission, is a rare subject in Byzantine iconography, mostly reserved for Eastern saints.

Thérèse Martin, a Discalced Carmelite nun who lived in Lisieux in 19th-century France, died at only 24, leaving behind the autobiography "Story of a Soul" and the teaching of the "Little Way": holiness reached not through great deeds but through trust and love lived out in the simplest gestures of everyday life. Declared a Doctor of the Church in 1997, she is depicted with the cross and roses, her traditional attribute.

Made in egg tempera with natural pigments on a wood panel, with the halo and background covered in gold on bole, following the same complete technique of the Byzantine iconographic tradition.

A commissioned icon: from € 100
