A homage to Icarus. His father Daedalus built wings of feathers and wax to escape from Crete. Icarus flew too close to the sun, the wax melted and he fell into the sea.

Next to him I think of Phaethon, son of the Sun, who wanted to drive his father's chariot, lost control of it and was struck down by Zeus. Both are stories of young men who rise too high, and this work is my reflection on the two of them.

I chose the moment when the figure is still in flight. The work is digital, in the style of charcoal. The black wings open out to the edges, behind the head there is a disc of light, the sun he is rising towards, and the ground imitates gold leaf.

Limited-edition print on professional paper.
