Foro Romano
Available
Three columns of the Temple of the Dioscuri still stand at the centre of the Forum, holding up a fragment of entablature that no longer carries anything. It is the most photographed subject in Rome and, precisely for that reason, the hardest to truly see.
Charcoal allows for something colour would deny here: stone and sky share the same substance, and the difference between the two arises only from the pressure of the hand. The drawing is built up in layers, from the lightest grey to the solid black of the shadows beneath the architrave.
Landscapes and views are made to commission in charcoal, oil pastel or tempera, in the format requested. A place that matters to the person commissioning it is worth as much as a monument.
