Antinoo Aureo

Acrylic, gold leaf on canvas · 50 × 70 cm, 2026

Private collection

The piece draws inspiration from the breathtaking scale of Hadrian's Villa and the centerpiece of its museum collection: the marble head of Antinous. This sculpture represents the tragic fate of the young man loved by the Roman emperor Hadrian.

Unable to accept the loss, the emperor ordered the young man's deification, surrounding his memory with gold and eternity. Reworking the mosaic of basilicas and the gold of ancient temples, the painting stands as an oxymoron: a man born outside nobility, imprinted forever into eternity.

In the same way, the piece symbolizes the migrant's search and journey. Born on the outskirts of the Roman Empire, Antinous became known throughout its territories. In the same way, Igorski seeks his own calling in Italy.

A commissioned portrait: from € 100
